Senior Lecturer: Grade 9 £49,149 - £56,950 per annum

We are seeking to appoint a Lecturer /Senior Lecturer in Ancient History with expertise in any field of Republican or Imperial Roman history.
You will have an outstanding research profile and the ability to teach on a range of modules in the Department’s undergraduate and postgraduate programmes, including Latin language. We welcome applicants whose expertise includes the ability to teach another ancient society, e.g Persians or Egyptians.
You will develop new modules in your area of expertise, be an enthusiastic and inspiring teacher, and collaborate with colleagues to develop, manage, and contribute to the Department’s MA programmes delivered in Rome.
For the Senior Lecturer post, you will be able demonstrate a higher standard of achievement in either excellence in practice/activity or leadership within and/or beyond your discipline and your University. You will be able to evidence how your achievements have been recognised in impact and recognition. 

As a Lecturer / Senior Lecturer in Ancient History you will: 
•engage in research and produce published research outputs of the highest quality in the field of Republican or Imperial Roman history
•develop research plans in line with the School’s strategy and seek external research funding 
•design, teach, and convene existing undergraduate and postgraduate modules
•contribute to teaching on, and the management of the MAs in Ancient History and Roman History and Archaeology
To succeed in this role you will: 
•hold a PhD or equivalent in Classics/Ancient History or a relevant discipline and an appropriate teaching qualification or equivalent 
•be able to provide evidence of substantial research activity, including peer-reviewed publications of 3* or 4* quality, in the field of Republican or Imperial Roman history
•have experience of teaching at university level in the field of Ancient History 

The School of European Culture and Languages (SECL) is a multidisciplinary school and one of the largest at the University. Comprising six departments, the School embraces Classical and Archaeological Studies (including Ancient History and Classical Studies), Comparative Literature, English Language and Linguistics, the Modern Languages (French, German, Hispanic Studies, and Italian), Philosophy, and Religious Studies, as well as programmes in Asian Studies and World Literature. It plays a major role in the University’s mission to be the ‘UK’s European university’, and prides itself on a strong sense of academic community.
